Museum Trip (Lucy)

Last Friday we went to the outstanding Canterbury Museum. There were five people in my group and our awesome parent helper, Bobbie. We left from school at 9 am sharp on the bus. When we arrived, there was a slight breeze without a cloud in the sky.

First we ran around at 100 miles per hour, taking pictures and checking out the old Christchurch streets. I experienced riding on a penny-farthing bike. We also got to explore ancient Egypt, the Antarctic room and the discovery room. I found the discovery room very interesting because I got to see how the rubbish around the world has expanded over the years.

Next we played a matching game in pairs. My pair was Brodie. After we had matched the kiwi icons, we took a tiki tour through the amazing decorated Paua house. We watched a movie on how the paua house was made and who decorated the house. Fred and Myrtle must have taken a very long time decorating the beautiful home. Everywhere you looked, the first thing that would come into sight would be one simple paua shell.

After that, we listened and learned about traditional stories, myths and legends. We listened to the sunken boat story and then the octopus story. We also got to see all of the Māori carvings and got to touch very rare greenstone.

In conclusion, I found the museum very interesting and I learnt lots such as how the paua house started and what the old Christchurch streets were like before we were born. I hope to go back there another time.
