Museum Trip (John)

Last Friday we had our chance to go back in time to the Canterbury Museum. There were five people in my group including our parent helper Sophia. The bus picked us up at 9am and it took about 40 to 50 minutes to get to the museum. It felt like much longer though. When we finally got there, there wasn't a single cloud in the sky but the wind chilled us to the bone.
First we walked through this hallway where there was a recreation of an old Canterbury street.
Second we went to the Antarctic room and saw a lot of machines like a motorised sled and a snowmobile. It was really fun sitting on it because there was a big screen and it felt like you were actually riding on the snow. We also saw models of people with huskies and sleds. Finally we went into the kiwiana section and saw a lot of things like buzzy bees and the Paua House. For me the highlight was watching the movie in the Paua house because it was very interesting and cool to see how they polished the paua on the grinder.
Overall it was an awesome trip to the museum.

Museum trip (Ben)

Last Friday we had a trip to the Canterbury museum.
There were seven people in my group including Ethan, Zayden, Greason, Zeke, Sevao, Kim, and I.
The bus picked as up at 9am and it felt like it took two hours to get there. When we got to the museum the weather was nice and cold with no clouds.
First we explored the museum in our groups. There was a motorbike made of gold, a massive globe, and jackets from old motorbike races.
After morrning tea we had a quiz about kiwiana and then visited the Paua house. At the paua house there were shells covering all the walls and a glowing puffer fish. I thought it was interesting because everything inside was real!
Finally, we went and saw Anthony who taught us some old myths and legends. My favourite was the the story about the giant ocotpus. It was an out of the ordinary day because we would normally just stay at school!

School Fun run

Well done to all competitors.

We're broadcasting - Springston Radio!

We're exploring the idea of radio broadcasting! A group of students from Room 5 has been helping Carol work out how to do this with iPads. We're working on our information skills, and our expression.

We're publishing our radio broadcasts on SoundCloud. We hope you enjoy our first effort!

Museum Trip (Georgia)

Last Friday we went to the Canterbury Museum. There were six people in our group including our helper Bobbie.
We left school at exactly 9:00am. When we got to the museum the air was crisp and as I got off the bus the wind started to drag all the warmth out of me. Other than that the weather was fine.

First we put our bags away and explored the Old Canterbury Museum on the first floor. It was amazing to see how much rubbish has been  generated over time. Once we had walked  through the Old street we walked to the tomb of the mummy. There was a four meter high scale on the wall next to the xray of the mummy. When he died he was still very short. In fact, I was only just shorter than him!

Next we learnt about Kiwiana and did a match up quiz on cards. We also visited the Paua house which was very interesting because of the paua shells on the walls. Finally, Anthony taught us some Maori myths and legends my favourite was the one about the pounamu.
It was a really fun day at the museum. I'd like to go again someday.

Museum Trip (Jeremy)

Last Friday we went to the museum. There were three other people in my group (James, Nathan, and Bryn.) and mum was a parent helper. We left from school on the bus at exactly 9am. When we got to the museum the weather was sunny but cold as ice! And when we had morning tea we had to sit on cold concrete flower patches!

After we went inside we got into our group. Bryn kept on disappearing but at the end Nathan and James disappeared while I stayed with my mum at all times. When we got to the Antarctica part I had a good go on the snow moblie. Then I went into the part with the whales. It was very scary.

Next we had lunch by the fountain. before going back into the museum and getting into our group. Then we went into the kiwiwana part and the Paua house of Fred and Myrtle. Finally we went back and had another break beside the fountain.

I had a great time at the museum I hope to go there again.

Museum Trip (SophieR.)

Last Friday we went to the amazing Canterbury museum. The weather was fine with a light breeze. There were 5 people in my group. We left from school on the bus at 9 AM.

First, we went to the old Christcurch streets and we got to ride on the horse and the penny farthing. We also got to see what the olden days clothing and hairstyles. The old toys were also interesting.

After that, we had a break and went climbing the big trees. I found a big gap and Mr T was very surprised to see me up there. When we went inside, we played a matching game and learnt about kiwiana icons. We also went to visit the amazing Paua house. Fred and Myrtle must have spent years collecting and polishing those shells.
Then we watched a movie about the Paua house and we learnt that Fred collected the shells but left them lying around on the floor. So Murtle started hanging them up on the walls.

We all had an awesome day and hope to go back there another day!

Museum Trip (Brodie)

Last Friday the middle team went to the Canterbury museum. My group had five people in it including Bobby (Georgia's mum), Georgia, Sophie R, Lucy, Fran, and Myself.

We left School to the museum on the bus and at 9 o'clock . We arrived at the museum and the weather was cold but with a chilly breaze. First we explored the muesum. We went to the discovery room, the Antartic room, and the mummy room. I enjoyed riding the horse and the penny-farthing bike.

Next we had lunch outside at the park and we went and climbed trees. After that we went inside and we listened to the Māori stories that Antony took us through.

After that we got to go through the cave and look through the gift shops then we went outside and had another snack then we walked over to the bus and we went back to school. It was an exciting day for me.
